Ethical challenges and dilemmas in the rationing of health commodities and provision of high-risk clinical services during COVID-19 pandemic in Ethiopia: the experiences of frontline health workers.Tsegaye Melaku, Ahmed Zeynudin & Sultan Suleman - 2023 - Philosophy, Ethics and Humanities in Medicine 18 (1):1-12.
Background Ethical reasoning and sensitivity are always important in public health, but it is especially important in the sensitive and complex area of public health emergency preparedness. Here, we explored the ethical challenges, and dilemmas encountered by frontline health workers amid the coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) pandemic in Ethiopia. Methods A nationwide survey was conducted amongst the frontline health workers from nineteen public hospitals. Health workers were invited to respond to a self-administered questionnaire. Data were weighted and analyzed using descriptive statistics. (...)

B-almost distributive fuzzy lattice.Berhanu Assaye, Mihret Alemneh & Gerima Tefera - 2018 - Bulletin of the Section of Logic 47 (3):171.
The paper introduces the concept of B-Almost distributive fuzzy lattice in terms of its principal ideal fuzzy lattice. Necessary and sufficient conditions for an ADFL to become a B-ADFL are investigated. We also prove the equivalency of B-algebra and B-fuzzy algebra. In addition, we extend PSADL to PSADFL and prove that B-ADFL implies PSADFL.

  4. No Shortcut to Stability: Democratic Accountability and Sustainable Development in Ethiopia.Berhanu Nega - 2010 - Social Research: An International Quarterly 77 (4):1401-1446.
The link between broad based economic prosperity, political stability and accountable governance is generally acknowledged as a reasonable proposition to explain the wealth and poverty of nations. Although there is continuing debate about what accountable governance actually imply and the degree to which government accountability is related to the democratic nature of the state, there is a broad consensus that political stability is an important precondition for durable development. Modern Ethiopian history is nothing but a story of economic decline, political (...)

Women’s Status among Households in Southern Ethiopia: Survey of Autonomy and Power.Gete Tsegaye & Nigatu Regassa - 2016 - Human and Social Studies 5 (1):30-50.
This study examined two key dimensions of women’s status in Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Region of Ethiopia based on regional data collected from five randomly selected zones and one city administration; namely, Sidama, Hadya, Gamo Gofa, South Omo, Bench Maji and Hawassa City Administration. The analysis revealed that while joint decision is fairly high, women’s independent decision making on key household domains is generally low. Significant proportions of women in the region are exposed to violence by their partners ranging (...)

Utilization of durum wheat landraces in East Shewa, central Ethiopia: Are home uses an incentive for on-farm conservation? [REVIEW]Bayush Tsegaye & Trygve Berg - 2007 - Agriculture and Human Values 24 (2):219-230.
The study was conducted in East Shewa, central Ethiopia, where durum wheat landraces were once popular, but were displaced and re-introduced. Combinations of survey techniques are employed to document the different home uses of durum wheat landraces and to assess whether these serve as an incentive to on-farm conservation. The findings reveal that wheat landraces have multiple dietary and sociocultural uses that contribute to the maintenance of landraces on-farm. Temporal analysis of historical information showed that (1) richness in food traditions (...)

On Homomorphism and Cartesian Products of Intuitionistic Fuzzy PMS-subalgebra of a PMS-algebra.Beza Lamesgin Derseh, Berhanu Assaye Alaba & Yohannes Gedamu Wondifraw - 2023 - Bulletin of the Section of Logic 52 (1):19-38.
In this paper, we introduce the notion of intuitionistic fuzzy PMS-subalgebras under homomorphism and Cartesian product and investigate several properties. We study the homomorphic image and inverse image of the intuitionistic fuzzy PMS-subalgebras of a PMS-algebra, which are also intuitionistic fuzzy PMS-subalgebras of a PMS-algebra, and find some other interesting results. Furthermore, we also prove that the Cartesian product of intuitionistic fuzzy PMS-subalgebras is again an intuitionistic fuzzy PMS-subalgebra and characterize it in terms of its level sets. Finally, we consider (...)

The Quest for Compensation for Research-Related Injury in the United States: A New Proposal.Carolyn Riley Chapman, Sangita Sukumaran, Geremew Tarekegne Tsegaye, Yelena Shevchenko & Arthur L. Caplan - 2019 - Journal of Law, Medicine and Ethics 47 (4):732-747.
In the U.S., there is no requirement for research sponsors to compensate human research subjects who experience injuries as a result of their participation. In this article, we review the moral justifications that compel the establishment of a better research-related injury compensation system. We explore how other countries and certain institutions within the U.S. have adopted various systems of compensation. The existence of these systems demonstrates both that the U.S. lags behind other nations in its protection of human research subjects (...)
